We're in the same business, but without the impressive deadline

What does a Korean Netflix series have to do with family constellations? A lot it turns out. The whole show is about either generational family dynamics gone awry or the consequences of our actions on other people (and on our potential next incarnation!) All this is mixed with comedy, a supernatural flare, and consequences in the After Life.

Like a family constellation workshop, the show revels humorously in the foibles of the human condition, dips into moments of great pathos, unveils longing disguised as anger (secondary emotions!), and reveals the power of enduring love. Add to that a magic elixir that allows the show's leading characters to enter their client's dream time, somewhat like the light trance state many clients' experience in watching their constellation recast their stories, and it's like a family constellation workshop come to life.

One of the lead characters, Weol-ju, has the task of settling 100,000 grudges for people in a certain period of time. She defines grudges as having three characteristics:

1. A grudge is something that cannot be settled by one's own will. In other words, the resolution you seek is outside of your direct agency or control, often because of the actions of someone else.

2. It is not a desire to have more than what other's have, in other words, a grudge is not greed.

3. The third thing? Well, I'll leave that for you to discover in the program as it fits the dramatic needs of the show more than our focus here...

Whether tackling injustices in the living realm or assisting the departed to settle their grudges so they can rest in peace, the episodes tackle issues that resonate deeply with systemic and family constellation topics.

In solving these grudges, the lead characters right past wrongs, balance give and take, victims and perpetrators are brought together to find resolution, and sentences spoken sometimes resemble the words we use in constellation work, of course without the predicaments the characters in the show encounter.

Warning, the show is addictive - kind of like family constellations workshops make you want to come back and witness the healing again and again - and you may end up binge watching the last three episodes!
