PROGRAM INTENT

Maybe you’ve seen this method demonstrated in workshops or participated yourself in a workshop yourself, or you’ve seen a video, read a book or heard of this approach from a trusted friend, or perhaps you just read our description of constellation work on our home page.  It sounds intriguing.  How could you bring this wisdom to your own clients?

As a professional practitioner you now have the opportunity to incorporate this powerful modality and perspective into your own practice.  The intent of this program is to weave the deep wisdom of the constellation approach in with your existing practice, and to assist you in your own evolution as a practitioner of your chosen field.  At the core of the constellation work are world-turning understandings of some of our common ideas and beliefs.  Two of these are Hellinger’s understanding of the function of conscience in systems and his discovery of our embodied knowledge of our place our relationships.  To learn this work you must bring an open heart, a willing mind and a true desire to be in service both to your own evolution and to the wholeness of your clients.

Participants who typically join our programs are, like you, already accomplished individuals in their own right.  You’ve already taken a lot of courses and done a lot of study, so what do we have to offer you?  Our lead trainer, Jane Peterson, has a deep understanding of the constellation work.  She’s been known to do constellations conversationally in five minutes in the midst of a busy conference, as well as doing longer pieces of work in more traditional workshop settings.  Jane has trained others in constellation work for years in many places and different cultures in the world.  She has learned one key thing that is important for you as a practitioner:  the constellation form is not the constellation work.  What you see other practitioners doing is useful and you can learn from watching, however, It is the deep philosophical underpinning in Hellinger’s work that actually creates the healing movements you experience with clients.  While we will certainly explore different forms and you will find core of the work that will have the most profound effect on you and your clients.  This program will give you a thorough grounding in the principles and essential practices that enable you to do constellation work well.  As it turns out, individual session settings are an ideal place for this kind of work to unfold.

WHO SHOULD JOIN US FOR THIS PROGRAM

If you work with clients individually in your professional setting, this course will give you the deep understanding and the tools to use constellation work effectively with your clients.  Psychologists, psychotherapists, counselors, clergy, social workers, body workers, life and executive coaches, school counselors, marriage and family therapists, consultants, physicians all find the constellation perspective to be a valuable addition to their practice.  Ironically, the more we understand the family system, the more completely we can support the individuals who come to us in finding their way to wholeness and well-being.

BENEFITS

  • You will be able to quickly diagnosis and understand the trans-generational patterns that hold your clients’ hostage
  • The process can encourage a high level of “buy-in” from clients
  • You will understand the invisible forces and hidden loyalties that act against the changes you offer them, and learn how to work with these forces rather than struggle against them
  • You will develop a deeper sense of how families function as homeostatic organisms over time.
  • You will learn how to create an open, safe space for the unknown to emerge, i.e., the phenomenological approach
  • You will hone your phenomenological perception and to learn to see behind the social masks and agreements that keep us from knowing family secrets.
  • You will develop your intuition and body sense of family systems, and learn how to use this knowledge respectfully and resourcefully in your work.
  • You will experience your own personal evolution through engagement with these life-changing principles and practices.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Our Training Methods and Goals

The training is structured around four major content areas:

 1. Principles – lecture, discussion and experiential exercises ground the participants in the underlying philosophical principles of the systemic constellation work. You will apply these principles flexibly to the situations you will encounter in practice. As Bert likes to say, the constellation work is “applied philosophy.”

2. Practices – artistry requires a solid set of skills. You will be introduced to the basic practices and skills you need to facilitate constellations well. We provide you with a firm foundation for their continuing development after you leave the program.

3. Self-awareness – brings to surface yourown perceptual and cognitive filters and familial tendencies, things that could obscure you ability to cleanly facilitate constellations for your clients. We call this portion of the training “cleaning the instrument of self.”

4. Feedback – as part of “closing the learning loop” during the program, you will receive constructive and supportive feedback on their progress in several ways, including, process questions for each public workshop day, on-line discussion questions, supervision sessions with the instructor present, personal constellation days for you to explore your own issues, self-assessment questionnaires, and coaching conversations with the trainer.

On-line Classroom & Between Sessions Learning Opportunities

While enrolled in the training program, participants have access to both the Lending Library the Institute maintains, and the on-line classroom that is designed for their specific training.  Structured inter-vision practice sessions are also strongly encouraged and the Institute will provide proven guidelines for maintaining healthy practice groups.

The on-line portion of the training consists of:

1. A discussion forum for participants with two questions per month provided by the instructors to provide learning and discussion opportunities for participants.  This is also a place to ask questions and exchange ideas with the instructors and each other between sessions.

2. A resources folder is provided that contains URL’s, articles in .pdf format and other useful resources for the participants (rather like putting materials “on reserve” at a library).

YOUR TRAINER

Jane Peterson started working with constellations in 1998, having studied constellation work with Bert Hellinger (the creator of Family Constellations, and one of the world’s most innovative, provocative and well-loved systemic therapists), Gunthard Weber, Albrecht Mahr and Sneh Victora Schnabel.  She brings a rich blend of other disciplines to her workshops. TESTIMONIALS From Previous Programs

• Sharon Flegel, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Jane spreads a safety net that reaches beyond the people in front of her. Somehow a field is created that opens and invites inner spaces that yearn to be revealed.

• Barbara Lilly, Owner/President Lillywing Communications

"I was drawn to this work after experiencing Jane Peterson's sensitive, intuitive and highly observant approach. She truly cares about healing families and organizations so that we can create a better world.

The work has been transforming for me personally in the way I look at my own health challenge and in the way I approach my work in bringing teams together in small and large companies.

My approach to conflict resolution now begins with an appreciation of the family systems of each team member and how they carry that experience into their team relationships. My interviewing techniques now include questions about family constellations.

Because I have another tool to use when things appear too complex or without solutions, I am also able to coach and consult with leaders, business owners and change agents more effectively. This tool is the missing link in a holistic approach to organizational healing. I believe this cutting-edge work will dramatically transform the way organizations, teams, and their leaders "see" their roles and how energy flows to find solutions.."

• Marianne Murry, PhD, Facilitator, Trainer (transformational learning)

“When I realized that I wanted to train as a constellation facilitator I looked into several programs, thinking initially that it might be best to train in as close proximity to the originator of the work, Bert Hellinger, as possible. What I discovered, however, was that the format of most trainings did not offer the depth of inquiry, or the honing of awareness and perceptual skills that Jane has designed into her program. In the end it was a simple decision. This was clearly a training/coaching program in which I could engage and learn to the depth that I was seeking.

“As a participant I’m growing and learning on many fronts, personally and professionally. My understanding of the underlying principles of the work has profoundly influenced the ways in which I make meaning - my worldview is literally shifting and changing. Developing skills of seeing and feeling the field is becoming a practice that I can take into most situations of life. I’m becoming a more effective and sensitive communicator as this awareness deepens. And, at a personal level, I have been able to acknowledge some of the ways in which I have been entangled and to make clear choices that are honoring of my family system.

“I joined the training fully intending to become a facilitator. Now, three-quarters of the way through the training, I’m leading a regular practice group in my community and am planning to start offering groups in the autumn. The learning won’t stop with the end of the program, in fact I know I’m just at the beginning, but I can feel the solidity of the foundation on which I stand and that, to me, is a clear recognition of the quality of this training.

“Jane is a rigorous and delightful trainer. She challenges, encourages, provokes and supports. She possesses very refined skills as a therapist and researcher and she makes them explicit in the training in a way that I’ve not experienced before. In other words, what she teaches comes right out of her own experience of learning and inquiring into the constellation work. She has forged a path of understanding, and now invites us to join her in the exploration.

“In short, I highly recommend this program for anyone who has a passion for learning, a willingness to explore inwardly, and who wants to gain a deep understanding of systemic constellations. For those who want to become facilitators of the constellation work, I can’t imagine a more thorough grounding and skill building process. Jane’s coaching and guidance is invaluable.”

• Kent Layden, Organizational Consultant for over 35 years.

I was at Zist Intensive Training in Germany the first year it was given, and I have to say, Jane’s constellations are elegant and precise. Excepting Bert Hellinger, she does the work as well as anyone I’ve seen. She brings great insight and creativity not only to her facilitating but to her training as well. This is a rich and rewarding program that will enhance both your professional practice and personal evolution tremendously.

• Lynn Reer, PhD, Educator

“As a professor of education, I have keenly observed and learned from Jane Peterson's skill as a teacher. Her presentations are carefully geared to suit all of our learning styles. She encourages us to read in areas that we are particularly interested in. She pays close attention to each of our strengths and areas that need developing and structures her assignments on an individual basis to address these needs. When speaking to a group, she attends most carefully to the group's state. And, as an excellent trainer of trainers, she points out to us what she is doing, so that we can learn to do the same thing.

“Though I brought some knowledge about behavior and psychology to this course, my understanding about how the mind works has expanded tremendously. We have explored both the commonalities and the inordinate variations of human behavior and perception, and I am more able to label and classify them and yet be awed by the beauty of how many ways people respond to their experiences.

“We all learned how to pay exquisite attention to aspects of communication that we had ignored before. In my case, I have learned many visual cues to watch for and how to notice my own body teachings. I learned how to notice--when a client presents an issue--what is truly important to that client, how to separate old stories from pertinent information, and how to give information to a client and observe that person's response. I am using these skills in many areas of my life beyond constellation work.

“I have learned how to notice my own state at any time and to change that state in order to gain more information, recover balance after an unbalancing event, or adjust to a client's needs.”

• Lori Stargrove, Naturopathic Physician

"Both professionally and personally, the Human Systems Institute training has provided me with a forum for tremendous growth. In addition to deepening my understanding of the profound relationship between body and mind, I have learned a variety of new tools pertaining to groupfacilitation. I would strongly encourage all healthcare practitioners to study constellation work as it takes its place in the revolutionary medicine of the future".
